Editing Lesson Blog

Today in class we learned a multitude of different procedures and directions. For instance, the three main steps we learned about were: dumping, importing, and exporting. Dumping is the action of taking footage from your camera or SD card to your computer. When doing this you want to make sure you create a folder on your desktop to store all your footage. You need to find your footage in the DCIM folder. Drag your footage from folder to folder. When filming make sure the cameras settings are ideal. The date, time, etc... should be correct. If your footage is not in the DCIM folder go to the private folder and click on AVCHD. All footage will be labeled by date and time so you should easily be able to find what’s yours and transfer to a separate folder.
To add on, the next step we reviewed was importing. Importing footage is transferring your recordings on your desktop to your program. The program our class is using is Pinnacle Studios. Pinnacle Studios is a amazing program that gives you a variety of options to edit your film. To begin editing you want to open up the Pinnacle Studios program and then click on the editing screen. Importing your film is an easy process also all you have to do is: click the import button, then the + sign, select your footage, and click start import. Your raw scenes will appear, and to edit them you want to drag the scene to Av Track 2. Av Track 1 is for your title, and Av Track 3 is for audio or sound. Pinnacle Studios provides different buttons that perform different actions. For example, the razor button splits your clip, the back button undos your edit, you can speed up or slow down your scenes, and add effects through open effects editor. Pinnacle Studios also allows you to add voice overs, and extra special sounds.
Finally, the last topic we went over was exporting. Exporting is done when your finished editing your film and your film is ready to go. When you export your film you export as an MP4 not as your programs file. You render your film to enhance the overall quality . Rendering has to do with film quality and resolution. Also, the duration of the movie and the screen time. When you export your film it’s the final cut Your scenes are compressed to make a smooth film. We continued to discuss our film processes, and how we are going to incorporate these steps in our schedule. My group and I learned a lot on each topic, and we’re ready to film, and edit.
